Why can't I open HEIC files on my Windows PC?

Is EXIF metadata preserved during conversion?

Yes. Camera settings, date/time, GPS location, and other EXIF metadata from the original HEIC file are preserved in the output JPEG.

Can I convert Live Photos?

How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?

Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and select 'Most Compatible'. This switches to JPEG capture, though photos will use roughly twice the storage space.

Does the conversion lose quality?

JPEG is a lossy format, so there is a minimal quality reduction during conversion. At quality 90-95, the difference is virtually imperceptible. The conversion itself does not degrade beyond the chosen quality level.
